Fabulous Fours: November 2013

Last week, we had fun learning about animals that sleep during the day (nocturnal animals). Some of the activities we enjoyed included making hand print bats, paper bag owls, and a nocturnal animal book. We even had fun joining Mrs. Heather's class for "A day in the dark". Also, some special visitors from Oatland Island came to visit our class last Monday. The students were excited to meet nocturnal animals such as Petunia the opposum, Icarus the screech owl, and a flying squirrell. We wrapped up our week of nocturnal animals by making a chart of all the things we learned about bats and owls.

For the nocturnal animal book, the students colored each animal the appropriate color that was listed in the book. After coloring, they choose their own nocturnal animal or night object to add and practiced their writing skills by tracing the name of their chosen animal or object in their book.

The students had fun playing with stuffed nocturnal animals and building homes for them with the wooden building blocks.

The day after Halloween, we joined Mrs. Heather's class for "A day in the dark" to simulate being nocturnal. The students had fun glow drawing, making shapes and letters on the light box, making patterns on the lite brites, and playing with glow-in-the-dark flubber.
