Pumpkin Paintings

Today our students were budding artists.  They hand drew and then painted a pumpkin scene.  We worked step by step to create our artwork.  Buttercup and I were very impressed by the end results!

For this activity, first the students learned how to draw a pumpkin by connecting a C and a backwards C.  Then they added a stem and lines on the pumpkin and a horizon line to separate the ground and the sky.  After it was drawn, they traced over the pencil lines with a black crayon.

After the pumpkin was drawn, it was time to paint!  The students did a great job keeping in the lines as they painted.

Firefighters visit WIPP

For the past two days, we have been learning about fire safety.  We learned about objects that are not safe to touch (the stove, electrical outlets, lit candles, etc.) and we also talked about what to do if our clothing caught on fire.  STOP, DROP, and ROLL! We practiced this in the classroom.  Also, we discussed and practiced how to avoid breathing smoke into our lungs, if there is a fire,by crawling close to the ground.  The students enjoyed seeing the firetruck today and the fireman dressed in his gear.  Even though the students agreed the fireman looked kind of scary in his gear, we discussed the purpose for their masks and protective gear and learned we should not run away or hide from a fireman because they are there to help us.

We made a firetruck using different shapes by carefully following directions step-by-step.

After our firetruck visit, we enjoyed a yummy firetruck snack.
